Original Lime Flavored Margaritas are a must have with Authentic Mexican Food
The classic drink from Mexico is served in a signature margarita glass and made from Tequila, a citrus spirit like an orange liqueur, triple sec, and lime juice. Many flavors can be added to the drink, making a mango or strawberry margarita. You can find as many flavors are there are combinations to be made. There are cucumber jalapeno and pomegranate as well.
T he margarita was made famous by tequila giant Jose Cuervo. In 1945, Jose Cuervo ran advertisement campaigns for the margarita, stating it was invented in 1938 by a bartender in honor of Mexican showgirl Rita de la Rosa. Margaritas go with authentic Mexican food like avocados to guacamole. Read more about avocados here . For decades, margaritas have been made with Tequila. Tequila is made from the agave of the Mexican weber blue cactus. Tequila is to Mexico, what Champagne is to France. Tequila is only produced in one part of Mexico, and they have claimed the rights to the name, Tequila. The margarita is featured in the 1977 song, Margaritaville, by Jimmy Buffet and has been described as the most popular mixed drink in America. The margarita is a fun drink to devour. Frozen or on the rocks, it depends on your preference. There is always a reason to have a margarita when eating out and having authentic Mexican food. The margarita is not just for celebrations, but for everyday occasions.
One reason the margarita is so famous is it combines sweet and sour with salt. According to Esquire magazine, the margarita cocktail was the drink of the month in December of 1953. It featured the classic recipe:
1-ounce Tequila, a dash of triple sec, juice of ½ lime or lemon. Pour over crushed ice and stir. Rub the rim of a stem glass with a slice of lemon or lime, spin in salt—pour and sip.
