Celebrations and Authentic Mexican Food - Las Posadas
We will have red and green tamales for order!
We are making authentic Mexican dishes for Las Posadas. Las Posadas is a Mexican Holiday celebrated December 16th and ending on December 24th, also known as Christmas Eve or Holy Night (Noche Buena). The Mexican and Central American Holiday ends with a giant celebration and an evening meal, normally the biggest feast of the year. We wrote about the Dias de Muertos (Day of The Dead) celebration with meals for family favorites, and The Las Posadas celebration is even larger!
Lasting nine nights, the celebration entails a symbolic journey to the lodging places where Mary and Joseph looked for a room at the inn. Literally, Las Posadas translates to "the Inns." Children still enact the ritual, looking for a place for Mary and Joseph to stay. Often, they travel from home to home until the merriment ends at a pre-arranged home with a giant feast and fiesta. Latin Americans worldwide celebrate with traditions and festive joy, including great food, merriment, poinsettias, and piñatas. There are many dishes to eat associated with Las Posadas.
Romeritos (baked shrimp) and Bacalao (Dried CodFish):
The romeritos refers to the flavoring of the baked shrimp, sometimes made with dried prawns and baby spinach. This is the closest thing we would have in Wisconsin to be like romeritos. Often these dishes are combined and made with potatoes and eggs.
Roast Turkey:
A classic dish served at Christmastime. Many times the tamales are eaten on Christmas day and the roast turkey is frozen for later use!
Tamales:
At Garibaldi’s, we are making red and green tamales throughout the festival. If you find yourself wishing to save time, you can order tamales from Garibaldi’s. Celebrate with us, like you are in Mexico. We have authentic Mexican cuisine for the celebrations.
Buñuelos :
Fried dough fritters covered in cinnamon sugar. Sweet and sugary desserts. We have these available in our restaurant. They are 3.25 each.
Mexican Ponche
This is a hot tea, made with fruit. We will be serving this at Garibaldi’s during the celebrations.
Atole:
A thick hot drink made with cornflour dissolved in milk and added to fruit or chocolate.
Café de Olla:
-coffeelike beverage from Mexico made with brown sugar and cinnamon in an earthenware pot
We will have tamales available for takeout if you want to add them to your Las Posadas celebration. We also have Buñuelos and Mexican Ponche available. Please call ahead or use our catering siteto request large amounts.
